1467717 Calcium silicate paints NISSAN CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 19 June 1974 [4 July 1973] 27256/74 Heading C1A A calcium silicate coating is prepared by (a) applying a sol containing 0À1-70% of colloidal SiO 2 and a minor amount of Na, K, Li or Cs in H 2 O, methanol, isopropanol, tbutanol or mixtures thereof, to a susbtrate, and (b) causing the SiO 2 sol to react with calcium in the presence of water to form 2CaO.SiO 2 .H 2 O.; the mole ratio of SiO 2 : alkali metal ranges from 25 : 1 to 2000 : 1. The source of calcium may (i) be mixed with the silica sol before application, (ii) may be present in the substrate which is coated (e.g. concrete), or (iii) may be applied in a solution to the silica sol after the sol has been coated on to the substrate. |
