titleOfInvention GENETICALLY ENGINEERED MICROORGANISMS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF L-AMINO ACIDS
abstract A thermally stable transminase gene from Salmonella typhimurium (eg the AT sty 2 gene) is isolated and inserted into a multiple copy expression vector which is introduced into a suitable host microorganism strain eg E. coli S. typhimurium. L-amino acids can be produced by contacting the corresponding alpha- keto acid and an amino donor with the transformed strain or a portion or extract thereof. Activity is up to about thirty times that of the untransformed host strain.
