A process for the preparation of 2-aryl-5- (trifluoromethyl) pyrroles of formula (IV) wherein R 1 is alkyl of 1 to 6 C; W is CN, NO 2 or CO 2 R 2; X is Br, Cl or I; L is H or halogen; M and R are independently H, alkyl of 1 to 3 C, alkoxy of 1 to 4 C, alkylthio of 1 to 4 C, alkylsulfinyl of 1 to 4 C, alkylsulfonyl of 1 to 4 C, CN, NO 2, Cl, Br, F, I, CF 3, R 3 CF 2 Z, R 4 CO or NR 5 R 6, and when M and R are in adjacent positions, may form, together with the carbon atoms to which they are attached, a ring in which MR is -OCH 2 O-, -OCF 2 O- or -CH = CH-CH = CH-; R 2 is alkyl of 1 to 6 C, cycloalkyl of 3 to 6 C, or phenyl; R 3 is H, F, CHF 2, CHFC 1 or CF 3; R 4 is C 1 -C 4 alkyl, C 1 -C 4 alkoxy or NR 5 R 6; R 5 is H or alkyl of 1 to 4 C; R 6 is H, alkyl of 1 to 4 C or R 7 CO; R 7 is H or alkyl of 1 to 4 C; Z is S (O) n or O; and n is 0, 1 or 2; intermediates for making these pyrroles; 4-chloro-1- (ethoxymethyl) -2- (p-chlorophenyl) -5- (trifluoromethyl) pyrrole-3-carbonitrile; A method for the protection of growing plants, a method for the control of insects, nematodes and mites by means of 4-chloro-1- (ethoxymethyl) -2- (p-chlorophenyl) -5- (trifluoromethyl) pyrrole-3-carbonitrile and compositions based thereon .R |
