abstract The invention relates to methods for repairing metal products by overlaying and can be used, for example, in restoring open end gears that have depleted the service life in gears of drives of navigable locks mechanisms. The purpose of the invention is to reduce the energy intensity and laboriousness of the recovery process, as well as increase the service life after repair of gear pairs that have developed a durability resource with a module of more than 8 mm when the profile is worn from 0.6 to 4 mm. When the gear is restored, electric arc welding in protective gas is produced with penetration of the base metal to a depth of 0.12-0.16 mm across the entire working tooth profile with low carbon steel with a layer of variable thickness. This layer provides an increase in the thickness of the tooth as compared to the nominal one at the apex by 0.13 module, at the leg - by 0.25 module. By subsequent machining, the thickness of the tooth at the base of the leg on each side is greater than the nominal value by 0.10-0.13 modules, after which the hardening treatment is carried out.
