abstract Disclosed herein are coated color-converting particles and devices, systems, and methods associated therewith. One of the coated color-converting particles may comprise, for example, parylene, such as fluorinated parylene (eg, parylene AF-4). In a particular embodiment, the coating can be configured to protect the color conversion material of one of the particle cores of the coated color-converting particles from harmful reactions. For example, the coating prevents, slows or otherwise inhibits the deleterious reaction between the color conversion material and a matrix material or between the color conversion material and an environmental component that can diffuse through a substrate. In a particular embodiment, the coated color-converting particles can be incorporated into a matrix (eg, a general optically transmissive substrate) to form a composite. The composite can be used, for example, with a radiation sensor. Methods associated with the coated color-converting particles can include, for example, separating coated color-converting particles having an acceptable coating from coated color-converting particles having an unacceptable coating using relative buoyancy .
