Provided are processes and electronic hardware and software systems for rapidly heating and cooling the active sensing layer of a gas sensor. A series of high-energy pulses travels through a nano-carbon tube (CNT) electroactive layer, which heats the layer to varying temperatures. The influence of various gases on the conductivity of the layer can be used to identify gases (such as water gas, ethanol, methane, O 2 , CO 2 , CO). Advantageously, the same structure can also be used as a nano heater, either in the background of the gas sensor or outside. The device can acquire a unique gas map in seconds, so the correct gas type and gas mixture are determined based on the known map of the collection. |
