abstract | This invention provides a manufacturing method and manufacturing apparatus for a glass ball. The apparatus comprises a molten pot (2) for heating and melting a glass; a nozzle (2A) disposed under the molten pot (2) to permit dropping of the molten glass (4) in the molten pot (2); and a glass drop receiver (11) disposed under the nozzle (2A) and filled with a cooling liquid (150) that cools the glass drops (10) dropped from the nozzle (2A). The cooling liquid (150) is formed by such a material that while the glass drops (10) is cooled down below the glass transition temperature in the cooling liquid (150), the cooling liquid (150) is vaporized to form a bubble layer around the glass drops (10) by means of the heat of the glass drops (10). A manufacturing method using the manufacturing apparatus can manufacture continuously and efficiently a glass ball with a good sphericity in a low cost. |
