abstract A projection-type image display device includes a light source, a phosphor, a filter, and a filter driver. The light source emits blue illumination light. The phosphor generates yellow illumination light, which includes red illumination light and green illumination light from a part of the blue illumination light, and reflects the blue illumination light and the yellow illumination light. The filter reflects the blue illumination light, which is reflected by the phosphor, toward the phosphor, and transmits the yellow illumination light therethrough. The filter driver controls the reflection amount of the blue illumination light toward the phosphor by controlling the insertion amount of the filter onto the optical path of the blue illumination light. The phosphor generates yellow illumination light also from the blue illumination light reflected by the filter.
