abstract A method of applying a protective coating over ink printed media in a digital printing engine whereby horizontally discharging ink jet nozzles arranged in a vertical array, discharging a protective coating onto the marked surface of media disposed on a belt in vertical disposition. The coated media is then transported vertically to an adjacent source of ultraviolet radiation for curing the protective coating.
