abstract The present invention provides a device for tracking a mobile or portable asset. A navigation system beacon device (NSBD) is stored in, on or near the asset, and is turned on under the control of an accelerometer in response to movement of the asset. A signal providing the asset's position and or motion information is then transmitted from the NSBD to a user or client optionally by routing the information to and through a central server.
