titleOfInvention Recovery of oil from tar sands using high water content oil-external micellar dispersions
abstract OIL FROM TAR SANDS IS EXTRACTED BY CONTACTING THE TAR SANDS WITH AN OIL-EXTERNAL MICELLAR DISPERSION (CONTAINS 55-90% WATER), THEREAFTER THE SANDS ARE SEPARATED FROM THE MICELLAR SOLUTION CONTAINING SOLUBILIZED OIL, AND THEN THE OIL IS RECOVERED FROM THE MICELLAR DISPERSION. THE MICELLAR DISPERSION CAN BE AT A TEMPERATURE IN EXCESS OF 100*F. AND THE PH OF THE WATER WITHIN THE DISPERSION CAN BE ABOUT 7-14. VOLUME AMOUNTS OF 0.5-30 VOLUMES OF MICELLAR DISPERSION PER VOLUME OF TAR SAND ARE USEFUL WITH THE PROCESS.
