titleOfInvention Method of continuous casting
abstract Method involves continuously but incrementally passing molten metal directly from a holding vessel progressively through an open-ended mold containing three consecutive zones. The first zone immediately adjacent the holding vessel conveys the molten metal to the second zone without significant solidification due to its low heat transfer capacity. A thin skin of metal forms progressively in the second zone due to its relatively high heat transfer capacity. This thin skin is then transferred as a segment into the third zone in which the molten metal solidifies sufficiently to form a self-sustaining rod.
