Radiation screening preparations comprising a cosmetically acceptable carrier and, as the active ingredient, one or more compounds represented by the formula <IMAGE> WHEREIN N IS 1, R1 is hydrogen, alkyl, alkali metal, ammonium or ammonium substituted with one or more alkyl or hydroxyalkyl residues, R2 is hydroxymethyl or alkoxymethyl and R3 is hydrogen; or R1 and R2 together constitute a methylene group and R3 is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl; and wherein n is 2, R1 is an alkaline earth metal, R2 is hydroxymethyl or alkoxymethyl and R3 is hydrogen AND PHARMACEUTICALLY ACCEPTABLE ACID ADDITION SALTS THEREOF. The preparations may additionally contain other agents which are characterized by a maximum light absorption in the erythemal range. Certain novel compounds are disclosed. |
