abstract An original reader has first and second arrays of line sensor chips having reading positions shifted from each other, a moving mechanism for moving the line sensors and an original relative to each other in accordance with a selected magnification of the original, CCD registers for delaying outputs from the first array of line sensor chips to match them with those from the second array of line sensor chips, and an analog switch for controlling the shifting operation of the registers. The reader can read an original image and reproduce the read image without adverse effect of an error between the reading positions of the sensors.
