abstract An electrophotographic photoreceptor for use in positive charging electrophotographic machines is disclosed, comprising an electrically conductive substrate having thereon a charge transporting layer, a charge generating layer, and a low resistance surface protective layer, in that order, wherein a squarylium acid derivative having an asymmetrical structure represented by the formula (I): <IMAGE> (I) wherein R1 and R2 may be the same or different and represent a -CH3 group or a <IMAGE> group (wherein Y represents a halogen atom), and X1 and X2 may be the same or different and represent a hydrogen atom, an -OH group or a halogen atom, is dispersed in said charge generating layer.
