abstract |
A process for preparing 4-hydroxymethyltetrahydropyran comprises reacting tetrahydrofurans of the general formula I ##STR1## where R 1 is hydrogen, C 1 - to C 6 -alkyl or --CO--R 2 , and n R 2 is hydrogen or C 1 - to C 6 -alkyl, n at from 0° to 400° C. and from 0.001 to 400 bar in the presence of acidic catalysts. |
