abstract An x-ray tube has an anode and a cathode arrangement mounted at a distance from the anode and having an electron emitter, the cathode arrangement containing structure for focusing the electron beam that emanates from the electron emitter during operation of the x-ray tube and which is incident on the anode in a focal spot, the focus of the electron beam being located between the electron emitter and the focal spot.
