Compounds represented by general formula (I) or salts thereof and peroxisome growth drug activating receptor regulators containing the same as the active ingredient wherein each symbol is as defined in the specification. Because of having an activity of regulating peroxisome growth drug activating receptor, the compounds of general formula (I) are useful as hypoglycemic agents, lipid-lowering agents, preventives and/or remedies for diabetes, obesity, diseases caused by metabolic errors (syndrome X, hypercholesterolemia, hyperlipoproteinemia, etc.), hyperlipemia, arteriosclerosis, hypertension, circulatory diseases, overeating, ischemic heart diseases, etc., HDL cholesterol-elevating agents, LDL cholesterol-lowering agents and/or VLDL cholesterol-lowering agents, and risk factor-relieving agents for diabetes and syndrom X. |
