A proces for producing a whey product with extended shelf life, involving defatting the whey byproduct of cheesemaking, pasteurizing the defatted whey the first time, adding an adjuvant to the pasteurized whey, optionally adjusting the pH of the adjuvant-containing whey, pasteurizing the optionally pH-adjusted whey a second time, and recovering of the whey product; and the invention also relates to the preparation of a premix for a cosmetic product, which involves preparing a mixture of whey powder and a liquid carrier, heating the resulting mixture, then cooling the heated mixture, adding a paraben preservative and imidazolidinyl urea to the mixture prior to or after heating to complete preparation of the premix, and preparing a cosmetic product from the premix by adding EDTA and citric acid to the premix, and completing the formulation of the cosmetic product with the premix containing EDTA citric acid, whereby the cosmetic product contains at least about 3% wt. whey solids basis. |
