A composition for use in protecting or improving a skin which comprises a polymer having a structure represented by formula (9), wherein each of R1, R2 and R3 independently represents a hydrogen atom, or an alkyl, an alkyloxy or an alkylamino group, R4 represents an amino acid residue, a polyamine residue or an aminoalcohol residue, and X represents an oxygen atom or a NH group, as a partial structure (recurring unit), or a salt thereof, which polymer contains a compound represented by formula (1), wherein each of R1, R2 and R3 independently represents a hydrogen atom, or an alkyl, an alkyloxy or an alkylamino group, R4 represents an amino acid residue, a polyamine residue or an aminoalcohol residue, and X represents an oxygen atom or a NH group, or a salt thereof, as a monomer constituting the polymer. |
