titleOfInvention Method of retrieving schemas for interpreting documents in an electronic commerce system
abstract The present invention relates to a method and a computer system for carrying out commercial transactions by exchanging electronic documents. The computer system includes a transaction service network, which contains a plurality of transaction servers for providing business transaction support services. Business partners order servers that communicate with the transaction services network over the Internet. Business partners involved in a transaction exchange electronic documents. These documents are written in a markup language, such as XML. The labels used in document instances are defined according to diagrams. Each schema defines a document type, which corresponds to a transaction type. An improved type of XML schema can be used that supports integrity constraints and polymorphism. Patterns are identified using Uniform Resource Names (URNs). XML processors residing in transaction servers or business partner servers analyze document instances by extracting URNs corresponding to the schemas used to interpret the document. URNs are converted to location-specific URIs to locate patterns. URNs are resolved for location-specific URIs using the LDAP protocol. You can also convert URNs to LDAP URLs used to search LDAP registers. These registers serve as registers for location-specific URI values corresponding to URNs.
