abstract A water treatment device and method for treating a quantity of water is powered by gravitational flow. The device includes an upper collecting chamber (14) and a filtration chamber (18). The filtration chamber includes a set of reactance containing at least three components wherein one of the components is a polycation and another one of the components is a polyanion. As the weak base polymer, the biological polymer chitosan is preferably used. The method includes subjecting the water to gravitational flow through the filtration chamber (18).
