A light emitting device having a high, stable light emission intensity, that is, a light emitting device in which, when an LED or LD having a emission peak of 380 nm-410 nm is used as the exciting light source of a light emitting device, the light emission intensity of a red phosphor does not change significantly and its luminance as well as its balance when mixed with blue and green phosphors is kept satisfactorily despite some deviation in its emission wavelength. The light emitting device is characterized by comprising a phosphor having Eu3+ as an emission center ion, a minimum emission intensity, within an excitation wavelength range of 380 nm-410 nm in an excitation spectrum, of at least 65% of a maximum emission intensity, and an emission efficiency at 400 nm of at least 20%, and a semiconductor light emitting element that emits light in a near-UV ray through visible light region. |
