abstract |
A process for producing methacrolein and/or methacrylic acid, including feeding a raw gas containing gaseous t-butanol to a fixed bed multitubular reactor having a dehydration catalyst layer and an oxidation catalyst layer arranged in this order from the raw gas inlet side toward the outlet side to thereby carry out dehydration reaction and vapor-phase catalytic oxidation reaction so as to produce methacrolein and/or methacrylic acid, characterized in that the length of catalyst packed of the dehydration catalyst layer is in the range of 3 to 20% of the length of catalyst packed of the oxidation catalyst layer. In this process, even when the temperature of reaction bath is relatively low (about 355°C), the conventional yield of about 80% can be raised to 81-82%. |
