abstract Disclosed is a fuel cell which is configured by laminating a separator and a power generating body that comprises at least an electrolyte membrane. The fuel cell comprises a sealing part wherein a projected portion that is provided on one of the power generating body and the separator so as to protrude in the lamination direction and a recessed portion that is provided on the other one of the power generating body and the separator so as to be dented in the lamination direction are engaged with each other and seal a reaction gas, which is supplied for an electrochemical reaction in the fuel cell, between the power generating body and the separator in the outer circumferential portion of the fuel cell. The projected portion and/or the recessed portion is formed from a polymer material that swells by the absorption of moisture. Since the sealing properties of the sealing part are enhanced by the swelling of the projected portion and/or the recessed portion by the absorption of moisture, the fastening load for the fuel cell can be reduced.
