abstract |
This honeycomb filter is provided with an exhaust gas introduction cell with the exhaust gas inlet-side end thereof open and the exhaust gas outlet-side end thereof sealed, and an exhaust gas discharge cell with the exhaust gas outlet-side end thereof open and the exhaust gas inlet-side end thereof sealed. The honeycomb filter is characterized in that the exhaust gas introduction cell is adjacent to the entire periphery of the exhaust gas discharge cell with a porous cell partition wall therebetween, the exhaust gas introduction cell is composed of two types: a first exhaust gas introduction cell; and a second exhaust gas introduction cell the cross-sectional area of the cross-section of which in the direction perpendicular to a cell longitudinal direction is larger than that of the first exhaust gas introduction cell, the cell cross-sectional area of the exhaust gas discharge cell is the same as or larger than the cell cross-sectional area of the second exhaust gas introduction cell, the exhaust gas discharge cell and the exhaust gas introduction cell are both formed by a polygon, and the length of a side facing the exhaust gas discharge cell among sides composing the cross-sectional shape of the first exhaust gas introduction cell is longer than the length of a side facing the exhaust gas discharge cell among sides composing the cross-sectional shape of the second exhaust gas introduction cell. |
