Disclosed is a diamine represented by the general formula, a polyimide and polyamide obtained by using the diamine as a raw material, a cyclized product of the diamine, and a method for producing the diamine. In the formula, A is a single bond, an ether bond, a sulfide bond, CO, CH 2 , SO, SO 2 , C(CH 3 ) 2 , NHCO or C(CF 3 ) 2 or a divalent group having an alicycle, a heterocycle or an aromatic ring, R 1 is an alkyl group having 1-4 carbon atoms or a halogen group, and a and b are each independently an integer between 0 and 2 and are such that 1≤a+b≤4. The polyimide and polyamide are readily soluble in an organic solvent to an extent whereby film formation is possible using a wet process when used for obtaining an optical device, exhibit heat resistance and strength upon film formation, and are a fluorescent polyimide and a fluorescent polyamide which combine excellent fluorescence characteristics. |
