abstract A transparent member (4) and a laser medium (5) are sandwiched between a first cladding (3-1) and a second cladding (3-2) to constitute a waveguide. Excitation light (8) is made to impinge from a perpendicular direction with respect to the direction of the optical axis of first to fourth oscillating laser beams (9-1 - 9-4), and is propagated in zigzag fashion alternately through the transparent member (4) and the laser medium (5), so as to exclusively excite a resonator mode region within the laser medium (5).
