An article of footwear (100) includes a knitted component (130) formed of multiple knitted component portions. The knitted component includes a body portion (124) and a heel portion (126). The body portion (124) is formed of unitary knit construction and extends through a forefoot region (10), a midfoot region (12), and at least partially into a heel region (14) of the article of footwear (100). The heel portion (126) is formed of unitary knit construction and extends through the heel region (14) and includes a cuff that defines a throat opening (140) of the upper (120) for receiving a foot. The body portion (124) and the heel portion (126) are joined along adjacent edges to form the knitted component (130). Knitting directions of the knitted component portions vary along the adjacent edges. An overlay element (160, 161) may also be provided to cover a seam (1100, 1101) attaching the adjacent edges of the knitted component portions. |
