The invention features an apparatus or device for implanted, ex vivo , or extracorporeal cell therapy, methods of using the apparatus or device to treat various medical conditions, such as an autoimmune disease, neurodegenerative disease, cancer, inflammatory conditions, cardiac infarction, chronic heart disease, acute respiratory distress, trauma, and organ failure, and a kit containing the apparatus or device. The apparatus or device can be connected to a subject, organ, or tissue, and can be used to transfer therapeutic substances produced by immortal cells that remain resident in the apparatus or device to the subject, organ, or tissue. |
