abstract |
This method is for producing propylene oxide and comprises (1) an oxidation step, (2) a distillation step, (3) an epoxidation step, and (4) a separation step, wherein: the distillation step (2) is for distilling a reaction mixture containing cumene hydroperoxide obtained in the oxidation step to separate the reaction mixture into a concentrated liquid containing cumene hydroperoxide and a distillate, and the distilling is continuously performed under a condition that the ratio (D/F) of the flow rate (D) of the distillate to the flow rate (F) of the reaction mixture to be distilled is 0.037-0.13; and the epoxidation step (3) is for causing the concentrated liquid containing cumene hydroperoxide obtained in the distillation step to make contact with propylene in the presence of a catalyst in one or more reactors so that propylene reacts with cumene hydroperoxide contained in the concentrated liquid, to obtain a reaction mixture containing propylene oxide and cumyl alcohol, and the exit temperature of the last reactor among said one or more reactors is adjusted to not less than 115°C but less than 140°C. |
