abstract The invention relates to a method and a computer (ICS1, …, ICS3) for controlling, in particular a component of an industrial automation assembly, against security risks, wherein a number of protective measures can be provided for protecting against attacks, in particular against computer viruses and other cybercriminal threats. In addition, the available protective measures are assigned to a number of security profiles, wherein these differ in that there is at least a low-level security profile with less complex protective measures and a high-level security profile with more complex protective measures, wherein a gauge for a cybercriminal threat is determined for the computer (ICS1, …, ICS3), wherein at least one of the security profiles is selected based on the determined gauge, and wherein the protective measures assigned to the selected security profile are used on the computer (ICS1, …, ICS3). With this method it is possible to adjust the respective protective measures to be used based on the current cybercriminal threat level, such that an optimum level of protection is constantly provided for the computer (ICS1, …, ICS3).
