abstract | Provided is a method of producing tetrafluoromethane wherein the reaction device is not likely to be damaged and tetrafluoromethane can be produced safely and stably at low cost. The tetrafluoromethane is produced by introducing fluorine gas into a source liquid (1) comprising: a fluorinated hydrocarbon that is represented by the chemical formula CpHqClrFs (where p is an integer of 3 to 18, q is an integer of 0 to 3, r is an integer of 0 to 9, and s is an integer of 5 to 30) and does not have a carbon-carbon unsaturated bond; and a reaction inducing agent. The reaction inducing agent is a hydrocarbon polymer which is solid at ambient temperature and pressure, and induces reaction to generate the tetrafluoromethane from the fluorinated hydrocarbon and the fluorine gas by reacting with the fluorine gas. |
