titleOfInvention Ultrasound blood-flow monitoring
abstract The invention provides a method for monitoring peripheral microcirculation in a vertebrate animal subject undergoing or recovering from surgery, wherein said method uses unfocused ultrasound pulses to determine a characteristic of blood flow within in the minor peripheral vasculature of the subject and said characteristic or the profile of said characteristic over time is indicative or predictive of a change in the peripheral microcirculation of the subject. The invention further provides a method for monitoring or predicting the onset of and/or progression of dysfunction of the microvasculature and/or a response to treatment thereof in a vertebrate animal subject, wherein said method uses unfocused ultrasound pulses to determine a characteristic of blood flow within in the minor peripheral vasculature of the subject and said characteristic or the profile of said characteristic over time is indicative or predictive of dysfunction of the microvasculature or response to treatment thereof or variation in said characteristic or a profile of said characteristic over time is indicative or predictive of dysfunction of the microvasculature or is indicative or predictive of a change in the dysfunction of the microvasculature or response to treatment thereof.
