abstract A metering apparatus (13) for measuring the flow rate of fluid passing through a delivery device (12) includes a peristaltic metering pump (23) which repeatedly and gradually compresses a section of a vinyl tubing. (18) of the administration device (12) to obtain a desired flow rate. To improve dosing precision, the fluid is maintained under pressure downstream of the dosing pump (23) by a downstream sealing station. A pressure sensitive protection circuit, in the tube downstream of the stopper station, stops the dosing device (13) and triggers an audible alarm in the event that the pressure in the tube exceeds a predetermined level, thus as in the event of a blockage downstream of the dosing device (13) and upstream of the patient.
