Abrasive article comprising a plurality of separate abrasive agglomerates distributed in a matrix of wavy filaments. The invention also relates to an abrasive article manufacturing method consisting in forming, in an open elastic band comprising wavy filaments linked at mutual contact points, a plurality of separate abrasive agglomerates in order to obtain a band impregnated with abrasive agglomerates. The articles can be prepared from the impregnated strip of agglomerates per se or by laminating layers of the strip, preferably under pressure. By way of example, the articles consist of wheels, discs, strips, sheets, abrasive blocks and the like. The abrasive articles of the invention can be used to give an article a finish with an even surface ready for polishing to obtain a surface similar to that of a mirror. Coated abrasive belts and compound wheels have been used previously with certain drawbacks in such applications. |
