Gas flow control apparatus for an anaesthesia system |
abstract |
Apparatus for controlling the flow of gas to or from a patient in an anaesthesia system, comprises a reservoir bag (1), and advantageously a mechanical ventilator (15), a selector valve means (2) operable to connect said bag or ventilator to either or both of first and second flow passages (3, 4), such passages being arranged in parallel and each being adapted to be connected at the end thereof remote from the selector valve means (2) to a patient. The first passage (4) comprises first one-way valve means (11) selectively operable to prevent the back-flow of gas into said passage from the patient and having communicating therewith an inlet (7) for the supply of fresh gas. The second flow passage (4) comprises second one-way valve means (12) selectively operable to prevent the flow of gas from such passage to the patient and a selectively bypassable carbon dioxide absorbing means (9), there also being a spill valve (18) arranged to release gases from the second flow passage (4). The apparatus further comprises means for controlling the conditions of the selector valve means (12) and first and second one-way valve means (11, 12) whereby desired modes of operation of the apparatus may be selected. |
