abstract The present invention provides absorbent polymers which can be used to reduce or remove cholesterol levels in various materials. The absorbent polymers are based on cyclodextrins. The absorbent polymers may also be used as a pharmaceutical in the treatment of hypercholesterolaemia in subjects. Preferred forms of the absorbent polymer of the present invention are: poly(β-cyclodextrinacrylate), poly(β-cyclodextringalacturonate), poly(β-cyclodextrinmethacrylate), poly(β-cyclodextringlycidylmethacrylate), poly(β-cyclodextrinvinylchloride), and poly(N-β-cyclodextrinacrylamide).
