The present invention relates to a method of treating pain in a subject having an NMDA receptor which includes administering d-methadone, d-methadol, d-alpha-acetylmethadol, l-alpha-acetylmethadol, d-alpha-normethadol, l-alpha-normethadol, pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, or mixtures thereof, to the subject under conditions effective for the substance to bind to the NMDA receptor of the subject. The present invention further relates to a method of treating tolerance and physical dependence in a subject and a method of binding to an NMDA receptor. |
