A vaccine composition for the prevention of bacterial or fungal infections of mucosal surfaces comprises a lyophilisate of antigenic whole cells milled to a particle size of from about 20 to 350νm. The vaccine may contain killed organisms such as Haemophilus influenzae or Pseudomonas aeruginosa and is useful, for example, for preventing the colonisation by these organisms of patients suffering from chronic lung diseases or, in previously colonised patients, for preventing the occurrence of acute infection of the respiratory tract. |
