UTAR PRESS

UTAR Press has been operating since its approval by the Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Senior Management Committee (SMC) on 14 July 2022. The meeting also approved that UTAR Press will be under the purview of Division of Strategy & Performance Measurement and governed by two (2) committees:
    • UTAR Publication Technical Committee (UPTC)
    • UTAR Publication Approval Committee (UPAC)

To provide the best publishing infrastructure to publish and disseminate quality scholarly works.


Production of the Nation’s Scholarly Knowledge

To increase the wealth of scholarly works to further enhance the level of development, progress and advancement of the nation scholarly knowledge.



Functions

  • To encourage scholars in the University to publish their scholarly work or teaching materials either in books, monographs or journals that meet publication standards.
  • To encourage writings and translations that have academic values and are beneficial to be used as teaching materials.
  • To consider any works that can be published under the University’s IMPRINT.
  • To print, distribute and sell any works that can be published under the University’s IMPRINT.
  • To have publication collaborations with other scholarly publishers outside UTAR.
  • To coordinate all publication efforts in UTAR that are funded either by the University’s financial source or other legitimate source.
  • To offer professional service to the customers in a flexible and economic way and systematically manage the service and publication process.



Roles and Responsibilities

  • Receiving manuscript with similarity check report from author/authors.
  • Pre-screening manuscript based on the guidelines and send an acknowledgement of receipt of the manuscript to the author.
  • Appointing reviewers based on recommendations and approved by UPTC.
  • Monitoring the manuscript evaluation process to ensure that the evaluation is returned by reviewer in a timely manner.
  • Monitoring the approval/rejection of the manuscript based on reviewer’s evaluation.
  • Appointing an editor for editing and proofreading to monitor the quality of editing.
  • Checking the compliance of the final manuscript to required format.
  • Managing editorial work:
    (i)  cover design
    (ii) typesetting
  • Applying for International Standard Book Number (ISBN / E-ISBN) and Cataloguing-in-Publication (CIP) and International Standard Serial Number (eISSN) from National Library.
  • Production of e-book or printed book (based on request).
  • Promotion of the book for visibility.
  • Managing agreement between author and UTAR Press.
  • Managing honorarium/ royalty/ incentives to authors/editors/chapter writers (if any).
  • Secretariat for UPTC and UPAC.
  • Submitting the printed books (if any) to the author(s), the National Library of Malaysia and UTAR Library.
