• In 2007, Denham was the target of an attempted recall led by Gary D. Robbins and 49 others. The recall qualified for the ballot, but failed (24.64% in favor; 75.36% opposed).
• Sonia Denham was a 2012 Delegate to the Republican National Convention.
• CLOSE CONTEST: In the 2018 election, Denham led Harder by 1287 votes the day after the election. On November 9th, Harder took the lead by 3362 votes (after previously being 1143 behind).
• MINORITY VICTORY: In the 2002 General Election, Denham became the last State Senate candidate in California to win with less than 50% of the votes cast in a general election (he won with 48.3%). Later, Lou Correa won in 2006 with 50.2% and Tony Strickland won in 2008 with 50.1%. The Final Minority Victors were: Kamala Harris (statewide), Jerry McNerney (Congress), Jeff Denham (State Senate), and Richard Pan (Assembly). In 2018, Ling Ling Chang was elected to the State Senate with 33.8% in a recall election (which doesn't fall under the "50% to win" formula of other special elections).
• GEOGRAPHY: Denham is one of a VERY small number of elected officials in the modern era to hold elected offices in several different regions of the state. In 2002, Denham was elected to a Senate district including Madera, Merced, Monterey, San Benito, and Stanislaus counties (and from 2003-2004, Denham listed his hometown as Salinas and from 2005-2010, it was listed as Merced). In the 2010s, Denham of Turlock held a district including Inyo, San Joaquin, and Stanislaus counties.
