about
Altın Gün, the acclaimed GRAMMY award nominated Turkish psych-rock innovators, return with a hooky new single, their second in as many months.
A galloping blast of fuzzed-out Anatolian psychedelia, Bir sigara iç oğlan (Smoke a cigarette boy) is a perfect soundtrack for the final days of summer. The track is a classic upbeat three and a half minute single, with an earworm hook and an exploratory instrumental break that highlights the band's arrangement chops.
Composed by Abdullah Yüce, the legendary Turkish singer-songwriter, actor and poet (1920- 1995), the song's lyrics are a dialogue between a young woman and a young man whose love is prevented from happening by her shopkeeper father:
Smoke a cigarette boy,
Drink it so that your sadness decreases a little.
Come through the door boy,
They will not give me to you.
Don't bother,
He says they won't give me to you.
Bir sigara iç oğlan (Smoke a cigarette boy) is the second single by Altın Gün's new five-piece lineup, following Gönül dağı (Heart mountain) released in mid-July. The band continues to support their 2023 album “Aşk” with concerts in Turkey, Germany, Netherlands and Norway.
Akyol says. “I’m looking inside my consciousness to my culture. I love rock but there are hidden things in my subconscious. Call it Turkish art rock if you like.” Altin Gün
