The Sword & Shield Build & Battle Box was a special product given to participants at the start of Prerelease Tournaments for the Sword & Shield expansion. These tournaments were held on the two weekends prior to the release of the expansion: January 25-26 and February 1-2, 2020. The boxes were later made available to purchase at retail stores on February 21, 2020. Each box contained a random set of predetermined cards designed to enhance the experience of the Limited format events in which they were initially distributed.
Each Build & Battle Box included a 23-card Evolution pack that featured one of four specially stamped Prerelease cards for the expansion, as well as four Sword & Shield booster packs. The Prerelease cards could be Rillaboom, Frosmoth, Galarian Perrserker, or Cinccino; each card accompanied a group of Pokémon cards that focused on the following types respectively: Grass-type, Water-type, Metal-type, and Darkness-type.
Sword & Shield Build & Battle Boxes provided exclusive Non Holofoil versions of cards only available as Holofoil in Sword & Shield booster packs: Rillaboom, Inteleon, Galarian Obstagoon, Marnie, and Professor's Research. Marnie and Professor's Research would later become available in various other products; Inteleon was subsequently available in the Inteleon V League Battle Deck.
Box structure
Section 1
Each box included two of the following four different groups of Pokémon cards, with one group always coinciding with the Prerelease promo.
Section 2
Each box also included four random Supporter cards from the following, with no more than two copies of a particular card.
