Zero Isle West (Japanese: ゼロのしま せいぶ Zero Isle West) is a dungeon in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky. It is unlocked after graduation and is part of the Zero Isle dungeons discovered by Team AWD.
Gameplay
Zero Isle West is part of the challenging Zero Isle dungeons. Upon entering, all team members are temporarily reduced to Level 1. Any extra stats and IQ gained from Gummis, drinks, or the like, are removed. The Pokémon will have all the moves it would have at Level 1, with any TM, HM or Egg moves being lost. No Pokémon found in this dungeon can be recruited. Additionally, the player is not allowed to bring items at the start of the dungeon, any items have to be deposited into Kangaskhan Storage before entering, or they will be lost forever. This means the player has to rely on items found within the dungeon itself (with a friend rescue being unable to send items). Upon exiting the dungeon, the team members' IQ, stats and movesets return to what they were before entering the dungeon, with items obtained within the dungeon preserved as per usual rules.
The enemy Pokémon will gradually gain levels, at about the same pace as in Zero Isle East. The traps in this dungeon are the same as there, though there's less of them on earlier floors. Unlike it, however, enemy Pokémon have only 26IQ in the entire dungeon, granting them access only to basic skills. Also unlike Zero Isle East, a Monster House can naturally spawn starting at floor 14. The amount of starting enemies depends on the floor, specifically:
- 2-3 on floors 1 through 4
- 4-7 on floors 7, 14, 21, 26 and 34
- 2-4 on other floors
Unlike most dungeons, the average amount of items drops as player goes deeper into the dungeon: there's 5-8 items on the ground on floors 1 through 4, 4-7 on floors 5 through 8, and 3-6 on later floors. There's also 2-5 items buried in the walls if the player is able to get through walls, though they're all Poké. Like Zero Isle East, items will spawn sticky 5% of the time.
Zero Isle West uses following floor layouts:
- Small-sized with 2-6 rooms on floors 4, 5, 9, 10, 15, 16, 24, 25 and 26
- Medium-sized, with 3-9 rooms on floors 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 18, 22, 23, 28, 29 and 30, and 3-7 rooms on floors 12, 14, 19 and 20
- Large-sized, with 3-7 rooms on floors 6, 13, 21, 27, 31, 32 and 33, and 3-10 rooms on floors 11 an d17
- Floors 34, 36 and 38 have hallways in center and rooms on the edge
- Floors 35, 37 and 39 have hallways on the edge and rooms in center.
Jobs in this dungeon are ranked E or ★2 through ★5 by default, depending on the floor. There is light darkness present in the dungeon starting at floor 14. There is water on floors 3, 5, 7, 11, 12, 15, 19, 22, 24, 26, 30, 31, 34 and 38, similarly to Zero Isle East. The turn limit is 2000, twice as long.
There is the following weather occurring in the dungeon:
- Cloudy at floors 4 and 5
- Random at floors 10, 17, 26, 28 and 36
- Fog at floors 12 and 20
Being generally a less forgiving version of Zero Isle East, Zero Isle West similarly houses many rare items; most notably, Ginseng can spawn outside of the shops unlike Zero Isle East. Other similarities are ability to find type Gummis on the ground in Darkness, and 20F not spawning many kinds of items in Explorers of Time and Explorers of Sky (though not as restrictive as in Zero Isle East).
There are locked chambers requiring Keys on floors:
- 9, containing a Pink Silk, an exclusive item for Poison-type.
- 13, containing a Gold Silk, an exclusive item for Psychic-type.
- 17, containing a Treasure Box that when opened can contain either a Havoc Robe for Mewtwo, a Life Ring for Mew, a Heart Brooch for Latias or an Eon Veil for Latios.
- 21, containing a Gray Silk, an exclusive item for Rock-type types.
- 25, containing a Treasure Box that when opened can contain either a Terra Ring for Groudon, a Searing Ring for Heatran, a Nether Veil for Giratina or a Wonder Gummi.
- 29, containing a Purple Silk, an exclusive item for Ghost-type.
- 33, containing a Black Silk, an exclusive item for Dark-type.
- 37, containing two Wonder Gummis and two Joy Seeds.
As the player cannot bring any items with them, a Key is guaranteed to spawn somewhere on the first floor. Most of them house rare exclusive items.
At the end of the dungeon, the player can pick up Amber Tear and a Deluxe Box containing either Joy Seed or Life Seed.
Pokémon encountered
Each time player enters floors 6 through 39, only 14 of the following species that can be found on the given floor will be chosen. The unpicked Pokémon's spawn rate will be added to whichever picked Pokémon is next in the National Dex order, going back to the beginning if needed.
