Hi CyberSkull, and welcome to the Commons! There are some licensing problems with the MusicBrainz logos you uploaded. Basically, you need to provide some justification for the claim that they're licensed under the GFDL, including a link to your source page at musicbrainz.org. I spent some time looking around that site, but couldn't find anything helpful. Thanks, dbenbenn | talk 15:14, 9 September 2005 (UTC)

License question
editHi, you claim that Image:VisualBoyAdvance.png and Image:VisualBoyAdvance cartridge image.png are licensed under GPL and your source is vba.ngemu.com. However, I can't find any information supporting that. Do you have a another source who can verify that the photos is licensed under GPL? Thuresson 00:46, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

Need to verify source & license on pic you uploaded
editI need to use this and a few other pics you uploaded. Before I can place them in the Wikipedia namespace on Wikipedia (as opposed to the User namespace), I need to be sure that it's an appropriate use of the pics. I went to the web-site you had listed for this, but couldn't find the pic there. Could you provide a more specific link, please?
File:Crystal Clear app mac.png
Anything else you could tell me about the pic would help. Like what application it was developed for, what the software publisher's rights are, etc. Any details you could provide would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to your reply. --Go for it! 16:29, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

- It's part of what icon set? Please keep in mind that I know nothing about this pic, and that uploads of this type are useless unless complete source information is included. That's why I've come to you for information. I need to know where it came from, and under what license it was created. Most importantly, I need links to this information, so that I can cite the source directly when I use the pic. I plan to use it on a high-traffic page, and this requires that I make absolutely sure that no copyrights are being violated by doing so. I went to the source you cited on the pic's description page, but could not find it on that web-site. Please help. --Go for it! 11:42, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

Free SW images
editIt would be indeed much more useful if you explicitly linked to software homepages and/or license pages with a statement like "This image is from program X that is licensed under the Y", and used Free screenshot in conjunction with the actual license (not that despite the name, it covers "game elements" as well. I suggest you check your images and correct any that have a speedy delete tag and are in fact freely licensed, with the expanded info that I suggested. Image Tagging Image:SuperCollider.png
edit
Thanks for uploading Image:SuperCollider.png. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use cc-by-sa-2.5 to release it under the Creative Commons or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Tip: Categorizing images
edit
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 10:26, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Hello! Back in 2005, you uploaded some icons from Snes9x, located here. However, Snes9x is not free software, as its license prohibits commercial use. The source code clearly states the following, with my emphasis in bold:
Permission to use, copy, modify and/or distribute Snes9x in both binary and source form, for non-commercial purposes, is hereby granted without fee, providing that this license information and copyright notice appear with all copies and any derived work.
Of course, if you happen to be the copyright holder of the icons, you can do whatever you want with them. Please provide proof that you own the copyright to these icons, or that you had permission to upload them to Wikimedia Commons under a free license. (You can confirm copyright ownership and permissions through OTRS.) Otherwise, the icons will be nominated for deletion. Thanks. --Ixfd64 (talk) 20:16, 31 January 2010 (UTC)

editThis media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Crystal_Clear_action_forward.png. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Thanks for uploading File:Vienna news icon.png.
Thank you. |
