Template:Language/ka
editDavid, thank you for creating {{Language/ka}} but those language templates are now deprecated and will be deleted soon. A full list of language names in Georgian in now embedded in MediaWiki. You can get a Georgian language name using {{language|<language code>|ka}}
. If your interface language is Georgian, you will get the same result with {{language|<language code>|<nothing here>}}
. Let me know if something is not working. --Zolo (talk) 15:27, 1 March 2012 (UTC)

Fast reviews
editHi David
I noticed you reviewed 9 FPC in five minutes. I am surprised that you are capable of reviewing the candidates against the criteria so fast. Open each in full resolution, check for technical faults, check file page for description and categories, etc. Yesterday evening I reviewed 14 candidates, but that took a whole hour to check all things. Maybe I am just getting old... --Slaunger (talk) 09:45, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
- First I look at all the candidates and then put at the same time all the estimates--David1010 12:41, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
- OK. Thanks for answering. Just try to consider that less than one in thousand images on Commons gets featured. Try to hit random page 1000 times. Pick the best. This is the level we are aiming for. Your streak of support votes gave me the impression of "I like it" popularity contest clicks on Facebook. --Slaunger (talk) 13:00, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
svg
editI would appreciate that you do not convert png maps made by myself into svg format and that you do not replace original png map with svg version in various articles. I think that svg is much worse format than png (and much harder for editing). I do not object your creation of svg version of that map in Georgian, but creation of English version was fully unnecesarry. But, if you already created an svg version of English language map then you should post that map into some article where png version is not already used. Replacement of png version with svg one in various articles is not an constructive and productive action at all. PANONIAN (talk) 18:14, 15 October 2012 (UTC)

Wikivoyage maps
editHello David! I saw that you made a Georgian translation for the Wikivoyage map of the Caucasus. Thank you for your interest in our project! However, I would like to ask that you follow our general map guidelines. We try to keep only one svg file with annotations in different languages included as sublayers. Once you have this file, you can amend the map once, and export multiple png files in different languages. This is the principle of sharing maps between different language versions. We will highly appreciate if you follow the same principle. Otherwise, things become haphazard.
I know that this particular map is delicate with respect to the regional boundaries. However, you could likewise create a Georgian sublayer with a different regional subdivision, which is best suited for Georgian Wikivoyage.
Note also that the CC-BY-SA license requires that you mention the author(s) of the source map(s) explicitly.
Please help translate
editHello David1010, thanks for helping to translate the 2012 Picture of the Year contest. We still need help translating the contest interface and messages, along with reviewing existing translations. This page contains information about which pages need to be translated (please remember to take a look at all three tables on that page). Your help is really appreciated and helps make the premier competition on the world's largest collection of over 15 million freely licensed files possible.

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open
editDear Wikimedians,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:
- Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
- This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
- Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.
To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons
Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Dear Wikimedians,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]

Dear David1010,
The 2013 Picture of the Year competition has ended and we are pleased to announce the results: We shattered participation records this year — more people voted in Picture of the Year 2013 than ever before. - In the first round, 2852 people voted for all 962 files

We congratulate the winners of the contest and thank them for creating these beautiful images and sharing them as freely licensed content:
- 157 people voted for the winner, an image of a lightbulb with the tungsten filament smoking and burning.
- In second place, 155 people voted for an image of "Sviati Hory" (Holy Mountains) National Park in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine.
- In third place, 131 people voted for an image of a swallow flying and drinking.

We also sincerely thank to all 4070 voters for participating and we hope you will return for next year's contest in early 2015. We invite you to continue to participate in the Commons community by sharing your work.

Request: Can you create alternative png, or if you can, svg versions of the European country maps without any separatist regions depicted, which that politically biased bully Leftcry has usurped?
editCan you create alternative png, or if you can, svg versions of the European country maps (and any other map) without any separatist regions depicted, which Leftcry has usurped? Please make sure that the TITLE and the DESCRIPTION section of each of these maps reflects it (so politically minded bullies like him can have no excuse to add separatist regions in these new alternative maps) when you first upload them and that any future changes need to conform to this. And if he interferes in these alternative maps as well, report him. Please also check my history section on these maps I have visited and edited, but were all undone by Leftcry, and all other maps I have not, which are being visited and usurped by him.
Thank you and best regards. --A2D2 (talk) 16:07, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
Translating the interface in your language, we need your help
editPlease register on translatewiki.net if you didn't yet and then help complete priority translations (make sure to select your language in the language selector). - use in any work, regardless of content
- creation of derivative works

See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons, and Commons:Image casebook for some specific examples. Some other Wikimedia projects have different licensing policies. For example, the English Wikipedia allows fair use of sounds and photographs. This is not the case on Wikimedia Commons; "fair use" materials are not acceptable here.
Please make sure that you only upload educational content you have created yourself, those which are out of copyright, or those for which you have the required permission for the work to be used in all the ways described above. Please note that derivative works of copyrighted material are also considered copyrighted. Again, please read through Commons:Licensing, which is quite crucial, to understanding how Wikimedia Commons works. Thanks for your contribution, and please do leave me a message if you have further questions.Yours sincerely, Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 02:05, 26 August 2015 (UTC)

Copyright status: File:Nokia 6280 2.jpg
editThis media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Nokia 6280 2.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Source of derivative work is not properly indicated: File:Chiatura sachkhere.jpg
editThis file may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Chiatura sachkhere.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |
In addition, I noticed that you've made a malformed deletion request: not including reason, year, month, or day; not creating the subpage; not notifying; and not transcluding. Here, {{Delete}} is not for speedy deletion, please see COM:DP. When you want to delete a page by manually using the {{Delete}} template (rather than the automatic Nominate for deletion or Nominate category for discussion tool in the Tools menu on the sidebar per COM:DR#Starting requests and COM:CFD#Starting requests), you must follow the instructions in the template, including the "Click here to show further instructions" portion (or Commons:Deletion requests/Listing a request manually policy or the "By hand" portion of COM:CFD#Starting requests, normally collapsed), otherwise you will create a lot of work for other people. Warning: such edits are not tolerated and have led to account blocks, as "We cannot work here with people who are not willing to follow our procedures, in particular for deletion requests." — 🇺🇦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 09:59, 15 August 2024 (UTC)
