Hello Djampa!
Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images uploaded to Commons should be useful to all users of Wikimedia projects. This is possible only if the images can be found by other people.
To allow others to find the images you uploaded here, the images should be in some place that can be found by navigating the category structure. This means that you should put the images into appropriate topic pages, categories, optionally galleries, or both of them (see Commons:Categories). To find good categories for your images, the CommonSense tool may help.
You can find a convenient overview of your uploaded files in this gallery.
The important point is that the images should be placed in the general structure somewhere. There are a large number of completely unsorted images on Commons right now. If you would like to help to place some of those images where they can be found, please do!
Thank you. BotMultichillT (talk) 17:14, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Freedom of Panorama
[edit]Vous éprouvez, semble-t-il, un certain plaisir à supprimer des photos de Commons.
L'argument invoqué est "Freedom of Panorama"
Toutefois, la protection des oeuvres architecturales ne s'applique que pour les bâtiments récents dépassant le "seuil d'originalité", et présentant un caractère artistique certain (il est précisé sur Commons : "There is no freedom of panorama in France, neither for sculptures, nor for buildings that pass the threshold of originality. Concerning buildings, case law (CA Riom, 26 mai 1967) recognizes two criteria for originality: "a definite artistic character" (« un caractère artistique certain ») and the fact that it does not belong to a series. For instance, the architect of the Louvre Pyramid is entitled to claim copyright over representations of the Pyramid." ).

"Jewish children"

The people operating the booth presumably are, but in Bellevue, which is perhaps 5% Jewish, most attendees would not have been. The girl on the right looks probably Asian. I'm reverting that; if you actually have a basis for this beyond the event having been a Jewish festival, do please explain. - Jmabel ! talk 15:34, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

Autopatrol given
[edit]Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Category:Ari Ashkenazi Synagogue -> Category:Synagogues in Safed -> Category:Buildings in Safed -> Category:Safed|

Category:Western Wall of the Temple Mount, Jerusalem
[edit]Hi there! What exactly is the difference between this new category and https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Western_Wall ? --Judithcomm (talk) 17:39, 3 July 2016 (UTC)
- the point is to make a difference between the western wall of the temple mount, and, let' s say, by exemple, the western wall of the old city, or any other western wall. If you are jewish, you know what the "Western Wall" mean but for other people, they don't know. Maybe they can understand "Wailing Wall" but not "Western Wall" Djampa (talk) 18:01, 3 July 2016 (UTC)
- I tend to agree with you, but my experience is that people who know what it means will overturn you. Wailing wall would be my choice, but for some reason this is not preferred by most, This would also mean that all of the photo's of the Western Wall should be moved. A lot of work ;-) --Judithcomm (talk) 18:46, 3 July 2016 (UTC)

Source of derivative work is not properly indicated: File:Palestinian child with portrait.jpg
[edit]This file may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Palestinian child with portrait.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

Bulk categorization reversions of Willem van de Poll photographs in East Jerusalem
[edit]re [1] and literally hundreds more. You sem to be depopulating Category:Photographs by Willem van de Poll in East Jerusalem and restoring them to Category:Photographs by Willem van de Poll. I can't see any discussion of this, either around the images, or on Huldra (talk · contribs)?
What's the issue here? And why are you changing this in such a blunt and heavy-handed way? If you object to some detail of the categorization (and I know that naming issues here are politically fraught), we should fix that, not simply bulk revert. I've sorted literal tens of thousands of Van de Poll's images, I hope you're not going to start similarly bulk-reverting all of mine too! Andy Dingley (talk) 15:05, 20 March 2019 (UTC)
- User:Andy Dingley: you are correct: AFAIK every one of the 70–80+ files Djampa reverted are in East Jerusalem. Only Israel says they are in Israel, the rest of the world does not accepts this. Now Djampa have made them look as if they are in Israel. I thought this was Wikipedia, not "Israelipedia"! Andy Dingley: where can I report Djampa? Huldra (talk) 20:23, 20 March 2019 (UTC)
- Actually it is even worse: here Djampa places Ariel in Israel....not a single country, not even the Israeli government, says that Ariel is in Israe!! Huldra (talk) 20:27, 20 March 2019 (UTC)

- I've rather hung back from this, because I know how complicated they are, and how even the dates on these are a problem. But we need to group things into identifiable groups, then discuss what a historically appropriate name is. Not just bulk revert and remove all description. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Old Jerusalem poster for the meeting of Pope Francis and Patriarch Bartholomew.jpg]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Your addition of disputable country assignations
[edit]Hi. You seem to be ignoring some gentle pings to be part of a conversation, which is your choice, though is not very helpful in a consensus-based community.
With your rename requests that assign a country assignation, there is challenge that the assignation of Israel is correct, and some would say that it is particularly problematic. The recommendation is that all disputable components are omitted, and that the naming can proceed on agreed components of a name. Whilst there is a rename criteria that allows renames based on "uploader's request" that criteria does not overrule other criteria, nor allow for specifically problematic renames.
If this request is problematic, then feel welcome to add your commentary to Commons:Village pump#Provocatively wrong file names so that we can hear your side of the conversation.
Thanks for your assistance. — billinghurst sDrewth 22:50, 6 January 2020 (UTC)
Greek Chapels on Holy Sepulchre parvis of John the Baptist has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |

Territory of Israel
[edit]Please do not add Israel, outside the 1967 borders, in disputed territories or occupied territories like West Bank, East Jerusalem or Golan Heights. Any more addiction, i will report your addictions, as others have warned you in January. Tm (talk) 13:20, 26 June 2020 (UTC)

We need your feedback!
[edit]Hello. Apologies if this message is not in your native language: please feel free to respond in the language of your choice. Thank you!
I am writing to you because we are looking for feedback for a new Wikimedia Foundation project, Structured Data Across Wikimedia (SDAW). SDAW is a grant-funded programme that will explore ways to structure content on wikitext pages in a way that will be machine-recognizable and -relatable, in order to make reading, editing, and searching easier and more accessible across projects and on the Internet. We are now focusing on designing and building image suggestion features for experienced users.
We have some questions to ask you about your experience with uploading images here on Wikimedia Commons and then adding them to Wikipedia. You can answer these questions on a specific feedback page on Mediawiki, where we will gather feedback. As I said, these questions are in English, but your answers do not need to be in English! You can also answer in your own language, if you feel more comfortable.
Once the collecting of feedback will be over, we will sum it up and share with you a summary, along with updated mocks that will incorporate your inputs.
Also, if you want to keep in touch with us or you want to know more about the project, you can subscribe to our newsletter.
Hope to hear from you soon! -- Sannita (WMF) (talk to me!) 09:57, 2 August 2021 (UTC)

Many, many thsnks!
[edit]Dear Djampa: Thank you so very much for re-organizing my uploaded photographs. I notice there are two new categories of my photos now which, I believe, you have arranged into: "Photographs by John Hill in India" and "Photographs by John Hill in Tibet". These are neatly arranged by year of my visits. I am so grateful to you making the photos more accesssible. I had wondered if I should do something about it myself as I had uploaded more than 1000 photos - but I just haven't had the energy since I have been almost totally bedridden for more than a year now. I am so pleased that others such as yourself have taken an interest in my photos. It is so much better than hiding them away in albums and boxes where nobody ever looks at them. I hope you have found some of real interest to you and send you my very best wishes along with my thanks. Cheers, John E. Hill (talk) 01:18, 8 March 2022 (UTC)

duplicate categories
[edit]Hi, you created both Category:Rabbi Pinhas street, Jaffa and Category:Rabbi Pinhas Ben Ya'ir street, Jaffa. Is it not the same street, see also street name guide page 387? DGtal (talk) 09:19, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
