Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Made a mistake?

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Hello, Doremo!

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Kategorizacija

Slike naj bi bile v najnižjih možnih kategorijah, da je kategorizacija čim bolj uporabna in pregledna. Zato sem mdr. npr. odstranil kategorijo Bridges in Ljubljana iz slike Kavsek Bridge - Ljubljana Slovenia - south side.JPG, ker je že kategorija Kavšek Bridge v tej kategoriji, zato bi to pomenilo podvajanje.--Sporti (talk) 12:38, 6 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bom to malo študiral, da videm, kako naj bo. Doslej sem imel težave s spustnim menijem pri naložitvi (da tam nisem našel pravih kategorij) oz. s kopiranjem kategorij iz WP (da so bile rdečo označene kot neznane). Doremo (talk) 11:26, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It is not directly visible in the image, however the text in the description of the image contains some mistakes in regard to capitalisation and spelling. I've edited out the image from the signpost. I've also removed an extra space in the transcription. Unfortunate, I no longer have a high-resolution image to check against. However, I think it would be appropriate if you made any other necessary changes to the text. The original text is probably in ALL CAPITALS, but the transcription needn't follow that format. The Enciklopedija Slovenija (volume 3, 1989, page 314) states that the Saint Christopher fresco is "... v 2 plasteh iz 14. in 15. st." ('... in two layers from the 14th and 15th centuries'). Presumably the newer layer was removed at some point after 1989 to reveal the older image in my 2013 photo. Doremo (talk) 04:46, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The information sign says "... zasliševali, mučili in ubijali borce ter aktiviste Osvobodilne fronte." The "borce" would be Partisans and the "aktiviste" would be other unspecified activists (informers? spies? civilian organizers?) allied with the communist movement. Could be, but it must also be considered that the Liberation Front was a wide coalition that included a number of suborganisations and other activists does not necessarily mean they were Communists. Per B. Repe: "Partizanska vojska je bila zgolj »udarna pest« mnogo širše in razvejane odporniške organizacije, ki je bila do marca 1943 tudi koalicijska."[5] There is also not necessary a distinction between 'fighters' and 'activists'; they could be both at the same time. I suggest replacing 'Communist activists' with 'activists of the Liberation Front', as stated in the source, to avoid original interpretation. --Eleassar ^(t/p) 07:46, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Doremo. I noticed that you've made a malformed deletion request. Here, {{Delete}} is not for speedy deletion, please see COM:DP. When you want to delete a page by manually using the {{Delete}} template (rather than the automatic Nominate for deletion tool in the Tools menu on the sidebar per COM:DR#Starting requests), you must follow the instructions in the template, including the "Click here to show further instructions" portion (or Commons:Deletion requests/Listing a request manually policy), otherwise you will create a lot of work for other people. — Jeff G. ツ_{please ping or talk to me} 13:25, 16 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
