File tagging File:Mesenosaurus.jpg
[edit]This media was probably deleted.

Thanks for uploading File:Mesenosaurus.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Mesenosaurus.jpg]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

We need your feedback!
[edit]Hello. Apologies if this message is not in your native language: please feel free to respond in the language of your choice. Thank you!
I am writing to you because we are looking for feedback for a new Wikimedia Foundation project, Structured Data Across Wikimedia (SDAW). SDAW is a grant-funded programme that will explore ways to structure content on wikitext pages in a way that will be machine-recognizable and -relatable, in order to make reading, editing, and searching easier and more accessible across projects and on the Internet. We are now focusing on designing and building image suggestion features for experienced users.
We have some questions to ask you about your experience with uploading images here on Wikimedia Commons and then adding them to Wikipedia. You can answer these questions on a specific feedback page on Mediawiki, where we will gather feedback. As I said, these questions are in English, but your answers do not need to be in English! You can also answer in your own language, if you feel more comfortable.
Once the collecting of feedback will be over, we will sum it up and share with you a summary, along with updated mocks that will incorporate your inputs.
Also, if you want to keep in touch with us or you want to know more about the project, you can subscribe to our newsletter.
Hope to hear from you soon! -- Sannita (WMF) (talk to me!) 09:57, 2 August 2021 (UTC)

Series of postcards published by Pytigorsk Alexandra and George Nurses Community. По общему правилу Викисклада, если изображения находятся в подкатегории основной категирии, то из этой основной категории они убираются. С уважением, --Gandvik (talk) 14:04, 26 December 2021 (UTC)
Postcards
[edit]Hello Gandvik, thanks for uploading postcards and for your work in commons. Did you know COM:WPPC? You are welcome at this project. Maybe you can help to translate the project-page in your language. Best regards --sk (talk) 10:47, 12 January 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, Stefan! Thanks for the invitation. I have seen your project, and I try to use its achievements in my work with postcards. I will come to the project itself, but not now, but in a few days (maybe 2 weeks), when I am ready to show him some of my proposals. I will try to help you with the translation into Russian in the coming days (2-3 days). With respect --Gandvik (talk) 15:41, 12 January 2022 (UTC)
Hi, Stefan!
I have basically finished translating the help page into Russian. Some problems and suggestions:
1. There are difficulties with the translation of the section "Licensing". Russian legislation has its own peculiarities. This will require the presence of other subsections in this section, and not the translation of existing ones. This situation is not suitable for working through standard translation mechanisms. It is better to think about putting information about licensing in a separate help page, structured by country. Possible, as it is done in Commons:Copyright rules by territory, since other countries will have similar cases. While the project has not grown much, it is better to think about it in advance.
2. The category structure specified in the help has already changed. For example, Category:Postcards by printing processe is renamed and has a slightly different meaning. It is better to rework the help in this regard.
3. To specify the license template in the help, it is convenient to use the template {{Tl}} (as it is done in my translation) - it generates a link to the template page with additional information about it.
4. It is better to bring some of the information from the "To do list" section with questions to the project participants into the discussion of the project (in English). In its meaning, it is dynamic information, and it will be difficult to translate it constantly.
5. My translation may be sinful in terms of spell checking, since spell checking in my browser does not work well with the translation mechanisms in the Wiki. The rules for placing commas in Russian are very strict and very confusing. :) I will solve this problem within 1-2 days by connecting an external spell checker and correcting the translation.
6. If you have any more help pages that require translation into Russian, then you can specify them here.
See you on the project. With respect, --Gandvik (talk) 14:07, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
- Perhaps it would be better to include part of this message in the discussion of the project? --Gandvik (talk) 14:18, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
- Hello Gandvik, thanks for your translation. There is IMHO no more help-page. The Gallery with logos is at the moment in english. Maybe later we can translate this page or never. to .1) At the moment this is very short section. You can write more in the english version or generate a subpage. Just do it! - to 2.) I create in october 2021 this category for the future. And in december another user (without asking in the project) change the name. Yesterday I see this for the first time and at saturday I will change it back. It is a total other meaning and has to be undo. - to 3.) ok, I dont understand this. Please help, if it is better for the translation process. You can make the changes in the englisch projectpage and I commit this change as translation admin. - to 4.) the last sections of the projectpage are not finish. I think a short text should be in every section. And yes we can discuss all of this da the project-discuss-page. - to 5.) Take your time. There is no deadline. - to 6.) Not now. If you like you can help to translate Commons:Brück & Sohn. In the next month I will upload 3.000 more postcards (from 1989 to 2018) to this project. - Ok, next discussion on the projectpage. --sk (talk) 14:48, 13 January 2022 (UTC)

Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2022 voting is open!
[edit]Read this message in your language
Dear Wikimedian,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2022 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the seventeenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the two most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 1 will end on UTC.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee
You are receiving this message because you voted in the 2021 Picture of the Year contest.

Category:Smolensk by Partnership «Counterparty of Press» & Sherer
[edit]Hi. Can you maybe explain what exactly the meaning of the categories name is? Because it's not super clear. Like is "Counterparty of Press" an organization or something or just a random descriptor? And were the images published by "Sherer" or "Scherer, Nabholz & Co." and someone else? Thanks. Adamant1 (talk) 08:38, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Adamant1! Yes, "Counterparty of Press" and "Scherer, Nabholz & Co." are two publishing houses. This series of postcards is their joint publication (this category is included in their subcategories). Perhaps the name of the category is not very good. If so, then let's discuss it here and rename it. --Gandvik (talk) 11:22, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
